December is officially the first month of Winder and let’s face it usually when we think of December our mind instantly relates it with Christmas. We would probably think of family gatherings, Christmas trees and lights, presents, and even Santa. But none of them truly is about the Christmas spirit. Is it?

Everything I mentioned is just some Christmas traditions and customs. Of course, lots of them are fan to follow and put us in a festive mood. There is nothing wrong with that. But to me Christmas is not all about lights, spending money, and eating food like there is no tomorrow.
I have never been much of a religious person but truth is that Christmas is all about religion. After all, we celebrate the birth of the son of God, Christ. Even people of other religions celebrate Christmas. I guess it must be due to the whole party atmosphere and the huge profit industry created around them.
But what does this birth of Christ represent? Christ was a gift of love from God that was supposed to come into this world in order to save humans.
Thinking of it this way the story of humanity until that point must have been a big disappointment. To simplify it even more I would just call it a sad story where the birth of Christ came to bring a sense of hope. Hope that no matter what, things might have a happy ending.
My Christmas Spirit Translation
The way I translate the true spirit of Christmas is that it is all about love and hope.
These last couple of years we all lived were definitely a sad story. Something which we all hope that it will soon come to an end.
These Christmas I would suggest you to spend them with your loved ones, whoever they are, and never forget that no matter what there is always something to hope for!
I want to thank you all for this last amazing year that blogging came into my life! I love you all and I hope to see you all again in 2022!
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!

I sm glad you agree with me Fadima. Thank you for commenting 🙂
I’m not at all religious but I definitely understand Christmas to mean hope and love also. Its about generosity, but not about the gifts. And it’s a out family. Lovely post Eri!
Nice to hear you share my thoughts Vourneen. Thank you for commenting 🙂
Love this post! I agree – my family is not religious but Christmas is a time to spend together, enjoying good food and company, and showing each other that we care.
Great to know we share the same ideas Colleen. Thank you for commenting!
I think this season is one of love and hope too. I’m also not religious but it’s definitely a time when we can all make the effort to come together and show those around us that we can share and show kindness. Thanks for the reminder!
Christmas is definitely a good season to get together with people we love and care about. Thank you for commenting 🙂
I totally agree, it’s family time bringing families closer together.
I am glad you liked it. Thank you for commenting!
You certainly do not need to be a religious person to appreciate and celebrate hope, love and (I’ll add) goodwill to all.
Thank you for commenting Paul!
For me, it’s just about sharing time with your family and showing appreciation for them! Without Christmas, how often would we all get together like that?

Since family is people we love I think you agree with me Corinne. Thank you for commenting 🙂
Happy Christmas to you also. Hope 2022 will be a year filled with great accomplishments and fulfillment. Christmas 🎄 in the Caribbean takes on a different meaning compared to the US. The true meaning of Christ-mas is Christ Jesus.
I hope 2022 will be better than the last two years Kevin! Thank you for reading and commenting!
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year!
You too! Thank you ❤️
Great post! I don’t do a lot for Christmas but that doesn’t matter as I spend it with the people I love- and that is enough. Thank you for sharing these interesting and insightful thoughts on Christmas spirit and what it means for people with faith or without x
I don’t do much either Eleanor. Just choose to spend them with those I love. I am glad you found my thoughts interesting. Thank you for commenting ❤️

Christmas is a lot of things for me. Not just lighting and trees. But moments we share with family and friends as well.
Thank you for reading and commenting Fransic!
Christmas seemed to have morphed in to a commercial time rather than families, religion and caring about others. It’s rather sad.
It is sad Susan. Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂
I totally agree, christmas is about love. It isn’t about the amount of presents you’ve got under the tree, it’s about being with loved ones, treasuring moments together. I love this post! Thank you so much for sharing. Merry Christmas, I hope you have a lovely day and a huge Happy New Year! Xo

I am glad you share the same thoughts with ne Elle. Thank you for commenting. I wish you have a great time during these holidays surrounded with all your loved ones!
I think looking at the phrase “christmas spirit” as meaning love and hope is a really lovely way to explain it because you don’t need to be religious in order to give/receive love and hope. And you’re so right, it’s definitely something we all need after these last 2 years x
It is good to know you agree with me Jenny. Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂
Love your take on the Christmas spirit!

I love your interpretation of the Christmas spirit; it is the community that helps bring out the festive feeling because, when celebrated in joint, it is hard not to feel the influence of something as pure as love and hope!
Exactly Jaya. Thank you for commenting 🙂
Christmas is definitely about the birth of Jesus and all He represents… bringing to the world hope and demonstrating pure love. For me spending time with family means so much too. Thank you for sharing this post. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This is a great reminder. In recent years, I have changed my lookout towards Christmas. After many years of working on Christmas Day. All I want to do is spend time with my friends and family. Thank you for sharing.
I can definitely understand you! Thank you for commenting. I wish you have a great time!
Merry Christmas! Yes! I believe Christmas is about spending time with family and those you love. 🙂
It definitely gets more difficult to find the Christmas spirit as I get older. It used to be so easy! But I love what you said about love and hope. I think we could all use some love and hope in our lives right now.
I am sure we could. Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂
Happy Holiday!! This was perfectly unconventional post on Christmas that I enjoyed reading. Short and sweet. Keep Sharing!!

I think it’s very much how you wish to translate it. I find it hard to have any sort of Christmas spirit working in retail when we’re open all of Christmas and the customers aren’t as pleasant. But that’s just me. How other choose to find it is up to them and, frankly, I think it’s great if you still manage to have it this day and age.
Unfortunately I can understand how tiring and frustrating it is working in retail during Christmas. There is no energy left to think about the Christmas spirit. Hope you manage to have some good time and enjoy yourself! Merry Christmas!
Love this! I’m not religious either but I agree that it’s about much more than presents and food – it’s about the love we share for each other and hope for what the future brings. I’m really looking forward to spending quality time with my loved ones this year! Thanks for sharing <3
I hope you have a great time with your loved ones! Thank you for commenting and Merry Christmas 🎄
I’m not religious at all. Christmas is about love and hope. Lovely post Eri, have a wonderful Christmas xxx
Thank you for commenting! Merry Christmas Sarah 💓
I love how you interpreted the religious meaning behind christmas as a time of love and hope for non christians too. This is such a wholesome thought!
I am glad you liked it. Thank you for commenting and Merry Christmas 🎄
This is such a great perspective! Perfectly written!
Thank you!
This is such a great way to see it! Luckily I have been off this Christmas, sometimes working in hospitality doesn’t really let you have a long break, but its great to spend time with family and share memories together! Hope you are having a great time x
